Diversity in Science: what place for women today?

The TFMASA Master Programme has been awarded the Erasmus Mundus Design Measures (EMDM) label, valid from November 1, 2022, to January 31, 2024.

The primary goal of the EMDM initiative is to foster higher education institutions (HEIs) in developing new, innovative, and highly integrated Master’s programmes through international partnerships.

Established in 2019, TFMASA is a joint international Master’s programme formed through a collaboration between three esteemed universities: the University of Bordeaux (France), Université Catholique de Louvain (Belgium), and Brandenburg University of Technology (Germany). The programme uniquely combines expertise in mechanical aeronautics and aerospace engineering, emphasizing sustainable and space-capable renewable energy technologies.

Our mission is centered on advancing aeronautical and aerospace engineering to meet critical global needs. These include innovative solutions for the generation, collection, storage, and distribution of renewable energy, tailored to both stationary and mobile applications. The programme particularly addresses environmental protection and climate change mitigation, aiming to significantly contribute toward achieving a carbon-neutral aviation sector.

The consortium has identified key strategic objectives to anticipate emerging competencies required to address evolving aerospace market demands. The awarded EMDM label will enable us to develop a highly integrated joint Master’s programme, specifically designed to attract and educate the most talented students worldwide, ultimately producing future specialists in Aeronautics and Aerospace Engineering.

The project’s main activities will include the development of an innovative curriculum and pedagogical approaches, alongside establishing new, fruitful partnerships with relevant industrial stakeholders in the aerospace sector.

This initiative is proudly funded by the European Union.

Diversity in Science: What Place for Women Today?

In alignment with our commitment to diversity and inclusion, TFMASA hosted the “Diversity in Science” workshop on January 30, 2024, at Amphi 2, A9 Building, Talence Campus. The event aimed to discuss the current roles and future prospects for women in scientific and engineering fields.

The workshop included:

  • Expert presentations by academics and professionals from partner universities and industries.

  • Panel discussions addressing challenges and opportunities faced by women in science and technology.

  • Interactive sessions fostering dialogue on equality and scientific excellence.

Keynote speakers and panelists included distinguished academics from Université Catholique de Louvain, Brandenburg University of Technology, and international experts advocating for gender equality in science and engineering.

The event was a significant success, underscoring TFMASA’s ongoing commitment to promoting gender equality, diversity, and innovation within scientific and academic communities.
